The Director, Dr. Scrima, has more than 25 years experience in sleep research.  He has directed several successful sleep disorders centers, two of which were in medical schools (University of Miami School of Medicine, Neurology 1982-84) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Dept. of Medicine, 1984-1990), where he also conducted research on sleep disorders and lectured on sleep physiology and sleep disorders to medical students and physicians (as an Assistant and then as an Associate Professor of Medicine, Psychiatry and Interdisciplinary Toxicology).  He has conducted research related to the causes and treatments of sleep apnea, sleepwalking, narcolepsy, Restless Legs Syndrome, and periodic limb movement disorders for the National Institutes of Health, the Veterans Administration Hospital, the Food and Drug Administration, pharmaceutical companies, and in independent research, and is internationally known for his expertise and research in narcolepsy, Restless Legs Syndrome, and sleep apnea.   He has been Principal Investigator for 14 clinical trials and has over 100 publications in the field of sleep and sleep disorders.    (FOR ADDITIONAL RESEARCH  HISTORY, see Dr. Scrima's curriculum vitae, which lists his professional activities and publications;     please click on "HISTORY" SECTION, below.)

The Research Coordinator, Sonia Skakich-Scrima has a masters degree in developmental psychology, is experienced in human research (including designing and administrating assessments to age groups 5 years to adult), and has 7 years experience as a research coordinator for 13 clinical trials.
